First there was the Coca Cola Christmas lorry, then the switch on of the London lights, fast followed by the John Lewis advert, all of which signaled the start of Christmas. But now, according to today’s press, it’s all about the Pret Christmas lunch, which begins the merriment and festivities.

Twitter was alive with tweets about how the launch of Pret’s festive treats have begun the Christmas countdown. Office workers in capitals across the city are looking forward to tucking into their turkey and cranberry sandwich or macaroni cheese with Brussels sprouts.

Pret, the sandwich chain, began its Christmas campaign with a countdown on their website and twitter, followed by a giveaway of 5000 sandwiches across 320 branches this morning.

For me, the start of Christmas is still the sight of the Coca Cola lorry, or watching Elf on Channel 4, but hats off to Pret for owning part of Christmas and creating a simple campaign with great talkability.
